Final dose of juice, then I'm onto raw food the next couple of days. This has been the best juice fast ever. It is my fourth, and the only one that I added extra protein to. Thanks to Catherine Egan, my fitness trainer!
For those of you who cannot see it well, that juice be GREEN, yo! And the extra protein is a quarter cup of Oregon hazelnuts.

The Juice is Loose!
Here's my breakfast, lunch and snacks for the next few days. I found spirulina in tablet form so I don't have to mix the stinky green powder with my juice.
I'll be getting 36g of protein a day from the spirulina and some extra protein from the following nuts:
1/4 cup raw pumpkin seeds = >8g protein
1/4 cup raw cashews = 5g protein
1/4 cup raw almonds = 6g protein
55g total per day. Different internet sources are confusing me on the amount of protein I should be aiming for. It varies between 25-57g per day.

Whoopsie!
So, I took a couple of days off my diet to eat fish and chips at Fire on the Mountain and a tempeh Reuben and chocolate stout beer at Proper Eats. In my defense, the fish was lightly panko-breaded and the chips were sweet potato fries.
Desperate times call for desperate something, so I'm going on a juice fast this week. I'm eating raw today and tomorrow (fruit, veggies, salads with oil and vinegar, and steamed tofu only). Then three days of fruit and vegetable juices, followed by another two days of raw food.
In case you're curious, breakfast is the juice from a pear, an apple, small piece of ginger and spirulina. Evening juice is carrot, celery, beet, spinach and spirulana. Mid-day juice takes the discarded veggies from the evening juice, plus garlic and onion, boiled and then strained for broth.
Chris is worried I will be a wicked hose beast and doesn't even want to hang out with me this week! He's also really curious about how the fast will affect my pooping. I'll let you know it all goes...ahem...at the end of the week.

Check it Out!
Yeah, yeah, yeah, so I had a hard boiled egg and veggie sausage for breakfast, then an orange, then a salad for lunch and a snack of cottage cheese and cherry tomatoes.
For dinner, I decided to try Tofu Shiratake noodles for the second time. My friend Erika recommended them to me as a noodle alternative. 20 calories per serving and only 1 net carb! So I had spaghetti for dinner, folks! And a bit of sauteed kale.
Check out Tofu Shirataki here.

I Am So Smart!
Breakfast was a bit of a cheat today. I ate most of a Fiat omelet at Beaterville (eggs, spinach, sun-dried tomatoes and feta), and two slices of sourdough toast with atomic red sauce (my nickname for their house-made jam which is sweetened with fruit pectin). Buuuuuut....I also had an Arnold Palmer, which is iced tea and lemonade with a shot of vodka. Too bad the lemonade is the worst thing in that mix.
No lunch for Dawnie.
I was in a Taco Bell-desiring shame spiral after work and thought about rolling up in the drive through. But I thought about this blog and I thought about my half-way point weigh-in on Tuesday.
When I got home, I came up with something I'm calling Dawn's Messy Brussels Bowl. Cous cous, black beans, Brussels sprouts, avocado, and salsa. The only thing I would've added was sour cream but the sour cream I have is past it's prime and was unceremoniously tossed. It was de-lish!

Friday/Saturday
This blog is kind of a chore on the weekends. I hope I can remember what I ate over the last two days...
Friday was a hard-boiled egg and veggie sausage for breakfast and a Subway tuna salad for lunch. I was lazy as hell Friday evening and had a mess of snacks for dinner. Almonds, string cheese, yogurt and blueberries.
Saturday was a hard-boiled egg and string cheese before heading to get a massage. I then took myself out to lunch and had a tempeh Reuben with air-baked sweet potato "no-fries" and a diet Dixie Mattress, which was a cocktail consisting of Maker's and diet local organic ginger ale. Tasty! I then picked up an Endangered Species chocolate bar and had a couple of pieces of that. It had raspberries in it.
I made a really great salad for Chris and myself. A heart of Romaine, kale, spinach, a bit of green cabbage, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, sugar snap peas and hazelnuts. We had Newman's Lite Ginger Sesame dressing and about a cup of shrimp salad on top. The shrimp salad had rice wine vinegar, a dash of sesame oil, chives, English cucumber and sesame seeds. Deeeee-lish. Chris had to have a second helping cause it was so awesome.
We then went to Bula Kava House, a kava bar on Division and SE 31st for a few coconut shells full of kava water. Which was basically just like drinking a few cups of the dirtiest, most-forest-floor-tasting tea you could find. I really doubt there was any nutritional value in it...I hope.

Wednesday April 13
Last slice of quiche was consumed for breakfast, finally. I'm moving on to hard boiled eggs and sausage starting tomorrow.
I had a mid-morning snack of cottage cheese and cherry tomatoes. It made my salad very sad because there were no more tomatoes for it!
So yeah, lunch was my typical salad.
I had an afternoon snack of a huge orange and a Dove dark chocolate piece.
Dinner was a stir fry of cabbage, red bell pepper, kale and tofu. That clump on the side is 1/4 cup of cous cous, people. Which contains about 28g of carbs, but a decent amount of fiber and protein, if you can believe it...

Monday, Healthy Monday
I'm almost done with my quiche. I had my second to last piece today, along with a cup of sugar free vanilla latte (instant).
Lunch was the usual salad with a couple spoonfuls of cottage cheese and avocado.
Dinner was my attempt to recreate the fried tofu from The Night Light. I lightly breaded a couple of wedges of tofu in panko flakes and fried them in a bit of oil in the wok. Then I crisped up some kale and whipped up some spicy green beans. The only thing I wasn't sure of was the sauce. I didn't really know what to do, so I blended some red chili paste and horseradish.

Sunday April 10
Started the day at 11 with my black bean burger, then snacked at work on cherry tomatoes, tamari almonds and a small cheese wedge.
Dinner was a Sweet Tomatoes salad of my own design, which included such toppings as peas, a few beets (I know they are high in natural sugars), garbanzo beans, cherry tomatoes, red cabbage, julienned zucchini, and a lemon garlic dressing that was pretty tasty. Absent on the salad were cheese and hard boiled egg. Those used to be staples until I realized that I didn't really miss them when I didn't have them.
I skipped the soup bar tonight cause nothing really spoke to me. I considered the sugar-free lemon jello, but figured, "why even bother?". Oh, and I turned down the free-cookie-lady as she came around to my table...twice! Way to practice constraint, Dawn!

Still Off the Wagon...
Okay, so I had every intention, after Friday's complete lack of attention to the diet, to climb back on the wagon. But it didn't quite work out that way on Saturday. I only had time to grab a string cheese for breakfast before going to the grocery store.
When I got back, I had my treat sandwich (black bean burger). We then went to a Thai restaurant for Shawn's birthday. I ordered eggplant and broccoli (good) and coconut tempura zucchini (bad). Don't forget the Thai iced tea (bad) and Thai coffee with Kahlua (bad). Oh, and then we went to Ground Kontrol where I consumed 3 Coors Light (bad).

Friday April 8
Yay! The day finally arrived for our chocolate decadence tour!
I had a bran muffin and a sugar free vanilla latte for breakfast and was so full from it that I didn't eat anything for lunch.
At the chocolate tour I had an ounce or so of drinking chocolate, the equivalent of 3 truffles and 6 small shards of different chocolates. I also tasted olive oils and balsamic vinegars.
Dinner was at Salvador Molly's. I had a wild Mahi Mahi fillet pan-seared with onions &sweet peppers, simmered in a weird spicy tomato sauce with garlic spinach and sweet corn croquettes. I also had 3 cheesy poofs, which are fritters of molten cheese, chipotle chile and mashed potato. Holy yum!
Also consumed whiskey and 2 mint mojitos.

Wednesday Was Perfect
Had 1/2 of my breakfast quiche and the usual salad with 1/4 cup garbanzo beans, 1/2 an avocado and a few spoonfuls of cottage cheese.
I was pretty hungry a couple of hours after the wee quiche, so I had a few spoonfuls of cottage cheese, some cherry tomatoes and some sugar snap peas.
Dinner was a grilled tuna steak with spicy mustard and a side of garlic spicy broccoli with cashews. Check it!
So today was a perfect day, diet-wise. Tomorrow will be just as perfect because all bets are off on Friday!

Tuesday April 5
I know I said I was going to be good all week, but I had a chocolate banana smoothie with whey protein from Starbucks today. 270 calories with 18 whole grams of protein!
Chelsea also made me a couple of Morning Star Farms sausage patties for 160 calories and some sliced cucumber, which burns more calories chewing than it contains. Yay for negative calories!
I had a fist full of almonds and a string cheese for a snack (240 calories) and a Subway tuna salad for dinner (390 calories) for a daily total of 1050, which is a bit low for calories, but I made up for it in sheer carbs! I had 54g carbs before dinner, and I'm not sure how much it had. Hopefully not a ton in a salad that is protein and vegetables.

Menu Monday
Today is Menu Monday and while I won't bore you with too many ingredients, I am pretty excited about dinner.
Breakfast was 1/2 a slice of quiche and a 12oz sugar free vanilla latte and lunch was the usual salad with cottage cheese and garbanzo beans.
Dinner was a wild tuna steak with stir fried veggies (a few left over Brussels sprouts, red bell pepper, onion and zucchini squash):
I stir fried the veggies first with just a bit of olive oil, garlic and red chili paste:
I then set the veggies aside and fried up chunks of the tuna steak with a tablespoon of soy sauce, a dash of sesame oil and a sprinkling of sesame seeds:
And voila, delicious dinner with a bunch of cilantro on the side and Hansen's diet black cherry soda (the bendy straw makes the dinner more jaunty):
I would make love to this meal if I could, but I'm sure conservative Christians everywhere would have something to say about it.

April 3
This weekend was really weird for food. I was a major hermit crab and barely left the house. I definitely didn't want to cook, so I heated up some quiche for breakfast and then had snacks the rest of the day. String cheese, apples and peanut butter, marinated tofu bricks, almonds.
I did have one good dinner that Chris made of stuffed salmon and spicy green beans.
Back to the quiche/salad/salad routine of the week tomorrow. I've got to be extra good this week because Friday we are taking a Chocolate Decadence Portland Walking Tour and having dinner at Salvador Molly's.
